Job Description / Responsibilities:
1. PURPOSE
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable and efficient ground transportation and general logistical support to the Lands & Building Directorate. The position is responsible for the operation, care and basic maintenance of vehicles used to transport personnel, equipment, stationaries, general admin and other operational resources.
The position supports Building operational activities by ensuring personnel and essential equipment are transported safely and on time to the office, operational locations and other designated locations
The Driver also assists with general ground-support duties associated with official movements, operational taskings and Lands & Building administrative requirements.
2. DIMENSIONS
The position has no direct financial delegation but is responsible for the proper use, care, security and accountability of vehicles, equipment and other resources assigned to support admin duties.

3. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Accountable to transporting staff, officials, clients, or materials securely and punctually to designated locations while adhering strictly to PNG traffic rules and the Motor vehicle Traffic Act
- Conduct daily pre-and-post-operation checks (fuel, oil, water, tire pressure, and brakes), maintain cleanliness, and report mechanical defects or service needs immediately
- Keep accurate, up-to-date vehicle logbooks, recording daily mileage, fuel purchases, destinations, and travel times
- Assist with minor office errands, deliveries, parcel pickups, and general logistics support when not actively driving
- Ensure passengers wear seatbelts, practice defensive driving techniques suited to local road conditions, and maintain discretion and professional conduct
4. MAJOR DUTIES
- Operating assigned RPNGC Lands & Building vehicles safely, responsibly and efficiently.
- Ensuring the safety of passengers, equipment and cargo while undertaking authorized duties.
- Providing reliable transport support to Lands & Building personnels.
- Reporting mechanical defects, accidents, damage or other vehicle-related incidents immediately to the appropriate supervisor
- Conducting pre-start and daily vehicle safety checks before operating assigned vehicles.
- Providing transportation for personnel and equipment associated with deployments and operational taskings.
- Maintaining vehicle logbooks, trip sheets, fuel records and other required documentation accurately and consistently.
- Ensuring assigned vehicles are kept clean, secure, serviceable and ready for use.
- Carrying out basic vehicle maintenance checks, including engine oil, coolant, battery, tires, lights, brakes and other routine items.
- Ensuring vehicles are refueled and prepared for scheduled and emergency operational requirements.
- Assisting with loading and unloading of authorized Airwing equipment and supplies while observing appropriate manual-handling and safety procedures.
- Supporting Airwing operations at airports, airfields and remote locations as directed.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding operational movements, personnel, documents, equipment and other information encountered during official duties.
- Complying with RPNGC policies, traffic laws, workplace health and safety requirements and LANDS & BUILDING operational procedures.
- Immediately reporting any accident, traffic infringement, vehicle damage, loss of property or safety incident involving an assigned vehicle.
- Maintaining professional conduct and demonstrating courtesy and respect towards passengers, LANDS & BUILDING personnel and members of the public.
- Upholding the Constabulary's Code of Ethics and maintaining the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability by having the vehicle users abiding to the rules of the vehicle and the traffic
5. NATURE AND SCOPE
The Driver operates within the LANDS & BUILDING Directorate and provides essential ground transportation, logistics and general operational support to ensure the effective functioning of the LANDS & BUILDING activities.
The position requires a high level of responsibility, reliability, safe driving practices, situational awareness and knowledge of vehicle operations and basic vehicle maintenance.

5.2 WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Driver works in a dynamic operational environment supporting the daily activities and operational requirements of the LANDS & BUILDING Directorates.
The position may require driving during normal and extended working hours, including weekends, public holidays and emergency situations. Duties may involve travel to airports, remote locations, operational areas and other locations where LANDS & BUILDING support is required.

8. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
(a) Qualifications
- Minimum qualification of Grade 10/ 12 or equivalent, with relevant driving and workplace training desirable.
- Current PNG Driving License appropriate to the class of vehicle operated.
(b) Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience as a professional, organizational or police driver is desirable.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant driving experience, preferably in a police force, government, aviation, logistics or operational environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of road safety, traffic regulations and defensive driving principles.
- Sound knowledge of basic vehicle operation, vehicle safety inspections and routine vehicle maintenance.
- Knowledge of the safe handling and transportation of operational equipment and in accordance with approved RPNGC procedures.
- Sound understanding of police operations, procedures, and legislation.
- Knowledge of RPNGC policies, SOPs, and ethical standards
- Sound understanding of Police Act and Police Standing Orders
(c) Skills
- Ability to identify and report basic vehicle mechanical faults and maintenance requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, trip records, fuel records and related documentation.
- Ability to safely transport personnel, equipment and authorized cargo.
- Ability to operate vehicles in urban, rural, remote and difficult road conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and respond appropriately to urgent operational requirements.
- High level of Communication Skills.
(d) Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years' relevant driving experience, preferably in a police force, government, logistics or operational environment.
